On November 3, 1975, a day after Pasolini’s murder, the Fígols Mine explosion occurred. It was one of the most tragic events in Spanish mining history.
My grandfather was one of the miners who survived because he was sweeping the empty field outside the mine. The reason he was sweeping the empty field was a punishment due to his union activism and constant demands.
CARBONARI 3 11 1975 is a theatre play that attempts to piece together my grandfather’s memory of the tragic events, blurred by his dementia.
